Seeking Fitness at 40, 50, 60 Years of Age & Beyond
We all know that staying fit once we hit 40 years of age and beyond isn’t as easy as it used to be. The demands of every day life and having the body plus muscles of someone decades younger and seeking fitness seems like a dream because of time constraints.
At any age fitness is important to our health. This being even more important once we hit middle age and beyond. A healthy, active lifestyle can help prevent or greatly slow down those health risks that suddenly pop up as we age.
Some of the things that can be prevented include:
- • Hypertension
• Colon and breast cancer
• Stroke
• Depression
• Muscle and joint aches
• Type 2 diabetes
• Bad cholesterol levels
• Bone loss through menopause
• Heart disease
I suppose you also notice that once we hit a certain age our clothes don’t seem to fit as well as they used to because of the slowing down of our metabolism and our tendency to gain weight as our ability to store fat speeds up. This can all be slowed down if not prevented with an active lifestyle.
One benefit I particularly like is the slowing down of the aging process.
Once you do hit mid life or beyond, fitness is the key to being able to enjoy life to the fullest and having a lot more independence once you hit your golden years. By that I mean the age beyond 70 years old. More independence once you hit your golden years is indeed a plus for such things as travelling, walking up stairs with ease, holding your grandchildren etc.
This is part 1 of a 3 part series of Blogs. I know the majority of folks reading this want to stay healthy for most of their lives without the aid of blood pressure and cholesterol medications and a fitness program may just be the key.
